Why You Don't Need to be Technical to be a Test Analyst

Gillian Galloway and Cecile Robb - Test Analysts, Edge Testing

When considering IT as a profession, most people assume that you need to be technically minded and highly knowledgeable about computer software – the picture of the computer boffin springs to mind! However, while technical skills can be helpful (understanding how the software was built can indeed be very enlightening), there are many other important skills that the Test Analyst must possess to be successful.

Suniel Rakhra - Test Analyst, Edge Testing

Static testing is constantly looked over in projects due to the fact that it adds extra costs before development is even started. However, the cost of not using static testing during your development cycle can be much higher.

A Tester's Experience of Exploratory Testing

Elaine Wilmot, Test Manager, Edge Testing

Exploratory testing is an approach to software testing that is concisely described as simultaneous learning, test design and test execution. It is about exploring the software in a structured manner, and finding out what it does and doesn’t do. The basic principle is “What happens when I do this?” and finding the unexpected.  It is a useful approach where time is of the essence and it is important you set a timeframe set and you have also identified when testing is sufficient.

Natural Born Tester?

Malcolm Pope, Test Analyst, Edge Testing

I came to testing relatively recently and roughly halfway (hopefully anyway!) through my working life. Before I got into testing I was unaware of some of the qualities that make a good Tester, but inadvertently my experience and skills have prepared me for my career in testing.

Was God a Tester?

Mike Tindal, Test Analyst, Edge Testing

The world of testing is an exciting dissection of the programs and software we use in our every day lives, in our interactions with businesses, our workplace and our friends. Our creations are there to make our lives easier, better, more enjoyable, yet we find that they leave us frustrated or annoyed. This is a tester’s job, to interact with these systems and make sure that when the system is released it can be used reliably.
